The Kilembe copper-cobalt mine lies in southwest Uganda at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains, about 10 km from Kasese. It is the largest copper mine in East Africa and Uganda’s most valuable mineral base, with an estimated ~12.7 Mt of copper resources at ~2% Cu and ~0.2% Co. Historically Falconbridge mined over 16 Mt of ore (1.98% Cu, 0.17% Co) here between 1956 and 1977.
In 2013, Suntrans founder Dr. Lü Guo joined a Chinese consortium’s acquisition of Uganda’s largest copper mine as interpreter and negotiation spokesman. The Ugandan side included the Deputy Ministers of Finance, Privatisation and Energy & Minerals, the presidential spokesperson and the president’s lawyer.
In November, Dr. Lü and the Chinese delegation gave interviews to 15 media outlets including NT, New Vision and Monitor on the project’s next phase; in early December, Uganda’s Vice President Edward received Dr. Lü and the delegation at State House — a key breakthrough for the deal.
In this project Suntrans extended language services into investment negotiation, government-relations liaison and cross-border due-diligence support through its “translation as entry, consulting as value” model, providing solid localised backing for Chinese companies going global.
